Board of secondary Education Karachi was established after formation of Pakistan in year 1950 under central legislative act No. XVI of 1950. Before that secondary education was under University of Sindh after formation of board it was transferred to board and Mr Sultan Mohyuddin was its first president. Initially it started its work in three room office but then shifted to its new building constructed head office is located at Dilawar Figar Road, Block 5, Karachi.

It is established with mission to provide quality education to students in karachi, Jurisdiction of BSE Karachi is for Karachi only as it is the largest city on Pakistan with great population. It has many objectives to conduct secondary examination with transparent policy, arranging curricular and co-curricular activities for students not limiting them to books and also arranging work shops and seminars for faculty and teachers training them to conduct assessments with quality level.

Not only this, but also board provide students with scholarship programs. Admissions for matriculation and intermediate start two months before examinations, online registration is also provided. Across Karachi many government and private schools are affiliated, those are checked time to time by boards administration that they are working properly or not. All institutions work under rules and regulations of board within the parameters provided. Examination for matric start in the month of March and for intermediate in month of April similarly results are announced after three months on a date announced.

Results for matric in July and for intermediate in August. Subjects and syllabus is designed by board books used are of Sindh textbook board, examination consist of both theory and practical papers. There has been criteria set for students that they are supposed to be registered in matric and intermediate from following board. Subjects and groups for matric are Science and Arts and for intermediate is Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, Computer Science, Commerce, General Science and Arts making students select depending upon their choice.
