The board was named as board of intermediate and secondary education Karachi board that is abbreviated as BISE Karachi. This board was formed in the year 1950 by the government and established under central legislative act No. XVI of 1950. This board started its work initially in a single room office but then it was transferred to shifted to its new building constructed head office is located at Dilawar Figar Road, Block 5, Karachi.

First president of the board was Mr Sultan Mohyuddin before this board was established educational system in Karachi was controlled by university of Sindh. This board provides students with quality education and main purpose of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class and then providing students with examinations. Jurisdictions of the board consist of whole Karachi covering all areas and in Karachi many private and government schools are affiliated with the board. Board examinations at 5th and 8th class are not compulsory but some students appear to practice.

Matric consist of two parts second part is class 10th examination for 10th class are conducted in the month of February and March many student appear there as regular and private students those get registered. Registration for examination starts in the month of January many students appear in examination and these forms are available online or posted to the affiliated colleges. After Registration students are provided with roll number slips and date sheets to students as usual this year also examination were conducted in the month of March and then board takes 2,3 month for announcing results this year result is to be expected in the month of June or July.
