Board there was named as board of intermediate and secondary education Karachi that is abbreviated as BISE Karachi. This board was actually established in Karachi in the year 1950 and formed under central legislative act No. XVI of 1950. First president of the board was Mr Sultan Mohyuddin before the formation of board education in Karachi was controlled by university of Sindh.

Board of intermediate and secondary education had its office initially in a single room office but then it was transferred to new building constructed head office is located at Dilawar Figar Road, Block 5, Karachi. Main objective of the board is to conduct examination for 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class examinations providing students with certificates after that. Board examinations are not necessary at 5th grade but some students appear in examination just for practice as jurisdiction of Karachi board is covering whole Karachi and there are many government and private schools affiliated with board working under its instructions.

Books used by the board are authentic and these are revised time to time providing good text. 9th class examination by the board are conducted mostly by the board in the month of February and March. Registration for 9th class examination starts in the month of January and these forms are provided online and also posted to the affiliated colleges and schools many million students appear in examination and pass out these students appear as private as well as regular students. Then students are provided with date sheets and roll number slips in the month of February as examination starts this year also they are conducted in the month of March for class 9.
